Design Line & Davidson's Offices in Del Mar

Design Line Interiors and Davidson Communities got together again this year to cheer on and encourage the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure participants, as they walked past our building on the corner of Camino Del Mar and 13th Street in Del Mar. It was so inspiring to see the thousands of men and women volunteering to raise money to support research, education, screening and treatment, in hopes of ending breast cancer forever.  The 60 mile course started Friday morning at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and ends Sunday in downtown San Diego.

Decked out from head to toe in pink… bras, tutus, boas, and other creative attire, it was an entertaining morning as we cheered, congratulated, and handed out snacks and drinks to the participants.   We created special “Hope” labeled water bottles, and served pink lemonade, pink stuffed Oreos, pink Starburst fruit chews, pink Special K breakfast bars, ‘Save Lids to Save Lives’ Yoplait yogurts, and gave away candles labeled with “Ignite the Night with this Light for Hope”.

Witnessing this event was both emotional and inspirational– the sheer number of people who are affected by this devastating disease is in the thousands, right here in San Diego. People carried large flags that said “Mother” or “Sister”, teams of people wearing matching outfits gathered in support of a survivor, and even survivors themselves walked and wheeled by in wheelchairs.  Everyone was smiling, cheering, and high-fiving for a common cause.  Our thanks to the participants for sacrificing their time, raising money and walking 60 miles for the cause!

Dawn Davidson, owner and founder of 26 year-old Design Line
Interiors, has been inducted into the California Homebuilding Foundation Hall
of Fame. She shares the honor with all the big names in the California building
industry over the past 28 years, and is only the 8th woman, and the second
interior designer ever honored.

The Hall of Fame is comprised of those whose contributions have
resulted in the long-term advancement of the homebuilding, construction,
development, marketing, finance or related services within the building
industry in California. Dawn says she was “honored to stand amongst some
of her greatest mentors, as well as many clients and peers, who have shaped her
life.”

The entire Design Line staff flew to San Francisco in June, to
attend the induction ceremony, held at the InterContinental Hotel. It was an
amazing night full of laughs and tears of joy, as we joined Dawn in the
celebration of the biggest honor of her career!

Best Sales Experience (Sales Office) -

The sales office at Sandalwood was designed for comfort and function. This sales experience captures the casual San Diego-inspired lifestyle where buyers shop in flip-flops and shorts. The tonal color palette is set off by the unique European Ash wood flooring and red brick walls, creating a pronounced backdrop to the eclectic furnishings. The interior is open and bright, for optimal traffic flow with a playful blend of mixed materials and bold textures. The juxtaposition of natural materials embodies this peaceful, hilltop location and creates a residential warmth, welcoming the buyer and emphasizing the sense of community.

Best Outdoor Living Space -

Mixing the natural color of stone, bold pops of sunflower yellow, and patterned accents, the result is a comfortable, cheerful combination, bringing the Vintage European theme through to the prominent entertaining space outside. As the corner of the family room disappears with the sliding bi-fold doors, the covered patio becomes a functional extension of the open concept living space. The wrap-around stone patio leading to the fire pit, overstuffed lounge chairs, and the dining table, surrounded by a backdrop of lush plants and hanging lanterns, which creates the ultimate environment for this move-up buyer and their sunny San Diego lifestyle!

Best Interior Merchandising for a Model (Over 2,500 sq. ft.) -

Given the challenge to incorporate subtle contemporary styling into a more traditional Tuscan exterior, we arrived at this Vintage European inspired interior geared to the move-up buyer. Dark refined furniture mixed with unique, rustic finds create an eclectic mix of old and new, accentuated with hard and soft materials, exudes vintage modern charm. Natural elements, textural fabrics, and a subtle overall palette of crème and linen, are accented boldly by punches of citron. A prominent focal point is the oversized lighting fixture in the dining room creating an element of ‘wow’ the moment you enter the home.

The firm received both Gold and Silver awards for its interior design work at the Rockrose project in Carlsbad during the recent International Builders Show in Orlando, Fla.

In praising Design Line’s work, the judges made special note of the “living wall” incorporated into the Plan 2 model, which won Silver award. Each home goes 35 percent beyond the state of California’s energy-efficiency standards.

In a press release Davidson said, “The flexibility in terms of size, coupled with various plant combinations make ‘living walls’ a viable project for any home; they help save money on energy bills by limiting thermal fluctuation; improve room acoustics, and enhance one’s well being via improved indoor air quality.”

The judges cited the ‘living wall’ in the Rockrose model in honoring Design Line Interiors.

Rockrose by Brookfield Homes was designed by Dahlin Group Architecture Planning, with land planning by Planning Systems of Carlsbad.

Roost - Cheerful Bluebirds

As interior designers, we are constantly asked where we find everything– from tile to trinkets, fabrics to furniture, art to accessories!   So we thought it might be fun to feature a series on some of our favorite sources.  Many (actually, most) of them are only available directly to the trade, but if you are resourceful, you can track them down at your local retailer!     

This week we’re sharing our favorite accessory source.  If you’re not “in the know”, we use the term accessory to describe anything that adorns a table top, counter top, shelf, and sometimes a wall.  This can include candlesticks and candles, baskets, boxes, figurines, shelves, ceramic, glassware, dinnerware, table linens, wood objects, plant containers, and any other sometimes useful but oftentimes useless item used to embellish your home.  Accessories can also be playfully aknowledged as tchotchkes (chach-kees), knick-knacks, curios or trinkets.

Their accessories are whimsical and delightful, like the cheerful bluebirds made of felt, above, and the artist hand models, shown at right.  And, this is just the tip of the iceburg, they carry lighting, furniture and jewelry as well!   We had an opportunity to visit their showroom at the last Las Vegas Market, and we salivated over every single thing!  We give them 2 thumbs up!

Design Line Interiors is proud to be recognized in two categories this year!   ‘Best Interior Merchandising of a Model’ is judged on concept, creativity, wall and window treatments, and impact of furniture and accessories.  Up for this category are The Flats @ ThreeSixty, and Pasado at Del Sur, both by William Lyon Homes.

For ‘Best Sales or Information Center’, which is judged on theme, function, display concept, creativity and design used in the office, DLI is nominated for Clearstory Sales Office by Davidson Communities.

Ivy at Woodbury, ThreeSixty at South Bay, Pasado, and Blossom Grove, all by William Lyon Homes, as well as RockRose by Brookfield Homes, have all been nominated for ’Community of The Year’.  As part of the creative team, we are thrilled for these communities and their respective builders!!!

This year a new category asked consumers to vote for their favorite communities for ’Consumer’s Choice - Community of the Year’.  They were judged on brochure, sales office, interior design, architecture, and landscape design.  The nominees for this award are divided by location - in Los Angeles, ThreeSixty at South Bay by William Lyon Homes; in San Diego, both Blossom Grove and Pasado by William Lyon Homes; and in Orange County, Ivy at Woodbury by William Lyon Homes, and Harmony by Brookfield Homes Southland.
